Review: Mary's Blessing, Lena Nelson Dooley
When I selected Mary’s Blessing by Lena Nelson Dooley to review from Charisma House I was not sure what I was going to get. I knew it was going to take place in the nineteenth-century and it would have godly themes. One thing was certain, I was excited to read a book from a Christian author that I have never heard of.
Lena Nelson Dooley does a great job developing the characters. Mary Lenora a 17 year old girl who has some deep down issues with abandonment. Why did no one love her? Kenneth Murray, Mary’s adoptive father, a hardened, grief stricken man who was not always this way. Daniel, a starry eyed young man who wants nothing more than to give Mary the life he thinks she deserves.
While reading Mary’s Blessing you are truly taken back in time. I felt like I could have been watching an episode of Little House on the Prairie {that is a compliment in my book}. That is how descriptive it is, it was great! I could hear the clip clop of the horses. I do have a pretty active imagination.
Your heart strings will be pulled. You will feel for all the characters. You will get mad at them and you will share in their joys. You will laugh, you will cry.
Then you will turn the page and the book will end. You will be left wondering … However, you will then realize this is BOOK 2! So you can get yourself a copy of book 1 while you are waiting with me for book 3 to come out.
I am a reviewer for Charisma House. I received this book in exchange for my review. I was not required to give a positive review and these are 100% my own opinions.
