{Review} More Questions than Answers by Eleanor Shepherd

It is {Tell Me about it Tuesday}!  So what am I telling you about today?  More Questions than Answers by Eleanor Shepherd.

Let me start off by saying there are few things I wish I had access to when I was in college.  This book is one of them.  However, since I was really searching for God at that time, it might have all just flown over my head.  I majored in psychology and I think I learned more about the listening in the first section of this book than I did in the four years I was in college.

Eleanor begins the book by telling us listening is a process.  It's more than hearing the words and working them through a brain cell or two.  She reminds us that if we are going to be good listeners we are going to be warm to the other person, we are going to be sensitive and empathetic to them.  She also points out listening requires respect, being authentic and commitment to confidence.  Why would someone talk to you if you are going to be disrespectful, fake and then go blab it to the world?

Eleanor goes as far as to say that we need these listening relationships.  It is true, we all need someone to listen to us.  She gives information on where to start and how to develop these relationships.

After teaching us about the listening process she moves into the next section, "Discovering and Sharing Faith".  Right off the bat Eleanor reminds us that God is different for everyone of us.  Just think about your own life how different is God for you and say your husband, or your best friend?  In my God is present and right here walking with me.  For my husband, his God is different.  And that is okay.  If we push our God onto someone else, we are not listening to them.

The last section is entitled "The Source".  This is the section that really goes into faith and God.  In this section she uses a great metaphor to remind us how we need "balanced spiritual nourishment."  She compares it to being diabetic and the delicate balance that is need to refrain from getting low blood sugar.

She provides a study option at the very end of the book as well.

There is a lot of information in this book.  I had a hard time reading it when the kids and hubs were up because they are very distracting.  It's a book that you need to read as if you were studying.  This is not just a leisure read and you are able to get it all.  You need to sit down, focus and read.

I would definitely recommend this book to a friend who was in a leadership role, someone in a prayer group, or in a therapy/counseling setting.  I would not necessarily recommend this book to a friend who is looking for a leisure read.
